The Batehachas’ Foundation is an independent, nonprofit Foundation based in Buea with a network of programs that promote community development in the country.

The Foundation is committed to civic education with a mission to promote an enlightened and responsible citizenry that is committed to democratic principles and actively engaged in the practice of democracy. The organization aims to administer a wide range of critically acclaimed curricular, teacher-training, and community-based programs in conjunction with civic educators and activists in the country.

The principal goals of the program are to help the community develop

  1. An increased understanding of the institutions of constitutional democracy and the fundamental principles and values upon which they are founded,
  2. The skills necessary to participate as competent and responsible citizens, and
  3. The willingness to use democratic procedures for making decisions and managing conflict.

This specific program is specifically tailored for the South West Region and aims in educating the communities in this area on their human rights with an aim of achieving the goals identified above.

Generally the ultimate aim of the organization is to strives to develop an enlightened citizenry by working to increase understanding of the principles, values, institutions, and history of constitutional democracy among the general public.
